Unit 7: Blog For this week’s Learning Space Blog, you will try out data collection. First you need to find a video. Go to a video site and put in a search for “a person having a tantrum.†Choose one video to watch that is at least 5 minutes long. Once you have watched it, complete the following: Pick one discrete inappropriate behavior that the person on the video engaged in. Once you have picked the one behavior (e.g., rocking or screaming), define the behavior in your Blog and pick a type of data collection strategy to use. Now, watch the video again and this time, collect frequency data on the behavior you targeted. Be sure to write down the number of times you observed the behavior in your Blog. Finally, ask a friend or family member to watch the video and take data. Be sure to show them the target behavior definition and give them a piece of paper to take data on. Once they are done, take your data and their data and calculate inter-observer reliability using a table like the one seen in Figure 5.2 on page 116 of your Applied Behavior Analysis textbook. Document this on your Blog. Once you have completed the above activities, write at least two paragraphs about your findings. Discuss why it is so important to design an appropriate data collection strategy for each behavior and why inter-observer reliability is important. Respond to at least two of your peers.
